Derivation
A/J mice were immunized with a 50-kilodalton receptor protein (Rp-a) for the group B coxsackieviruses (CB) isolated in a virus-receptor complex from detergent-solubilized HeLa cells.
Spleen cells were fused with Sp2/0 myeloma cells.
The RmcB cell line was established in 1985 by R. L. Crowell.

Comments
A/J mice were immunized with a 50-kilodalton receptor protein (Rp-a) for the group B coxsackieviruses (CB) isolated in a virus-receptor complex from detergent-solubilized HeLa cells.
Spleen cells were fused with Sp2/0 myeloma cells.
The RmcB cell line was established in 1985 by R. L. Crowell.
The antibody reacts with human CAR (the receptor for coxsackie B virus and the binding protein for adenovirus 2 and 3).
The antibody blocks binding and infection by coxsackie B Virus, but not adenovirus.
Mouse monoclonal antibody (RmcB) protects HeLa cells and Buffalo green monkey kidney cells from infection by all six serotypes of CB. RmcB did not protect HeLa cells from infection by poliovirus, echovirus 6, or coxsackievirus A18.
Complete Growth Medium The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, ATCC 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum (ATCC 30-2020) to a final concentration of 10%.
Subculturing Cultures can be maintained by addition of fresh Medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 1 to 2 x 105 viable cells/mL.  Maintain cultures at a cell concentration between 1 x 105 and 9 x 105 cells/mL. Do not allow the cell concentration to exceed 9 x 105  cells/mL.
Medium Renewal:  Add fresh medium every 2 to 3 days (depending on cell density)
Cryopreservation

Complete growth medium described above supplemented with 5% (v/v) DMSO.  Cell culture tested DMSO is available as ATCC Catalog No. 4-X.
